26th Aug 1303 was the day when Alauddin Khilji finally ran over the forces of Rana Ratan Singh Rawal after a siege of 6 months in the hope of laying his hands on Rani Padmini aka Padmavati.
Through this post let me take you through the memories of the glorious Mewar history.
This is the entrance to the Palace that Rana Ratan Singh Rawal had built specially for Padmini after he married her off from Ceylon through a dual. Padmini used to stay inside this Mahal located in the middle of a Lake inside her Mahal. The only way to reach was through boats. It was an all weather Mahal specially built for her. And it was here that the Legendary saga of watching Padmini on a mirror by Alauddin Khilji unfolded.
So what exactly happen ? The truth is far far different from what we have read in Amar Chitra Katha or seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali s Padmavat.
The Mewar culture those days were highly conservative & fiercely guarded. Hence it was agreed between Rana Ratan Singh Rawal & Alauddin that the later will come alone inside the Andar Mahal. So when Alauddin sat inside the Mahal a large mirror was put in front of him hanging in a slanted manner (Pic 4) & Padmini would come out of her lake palace ( Pic 2) & sit in front of the Crystal clear water which will carry her facial reflection to the mirror in front of Alauddin. Hence you can see the reflection of Water even now.
