The Legend of King Shiladitya (Son of Surya Dev). - Surjo Putro Maharaj Shiladitya r Kahini.

"There are more things on Earth" Horatio.

This story dates back to the early 6th Century CE when Chittorgarh Fort didn't exsist but Mewar did. Those were the days when there was a large Sun Temple which was located here in place of the Kali Temple that you see. The old priest of the Sun Temple had brought an orphaned girl, who he dedicated to Lord Surya Dev & taught her the Sholkas / Mantra which will invoke or bring to earth The Powerful & burning Surya Dev, however this could have been used only once.
The daughter was blessed by The Lord with a very powerful son named Shiladitya & was given a boon by his father that whenever he goes to War he will be presented with a very powerful celestial chariot whenever he summons it by invoking a Sholka from the Kund (pond) seen in the snaps below.
And thus was the stone laid the for the beginning of the Sisodia's of Mewar. While Maharaj Shiladitya won many wars & went on to spread this kingdom to far west, his enemies swelled every day. Those were the days when India's Western front was often ravaged by the Arabs across The Hindukush.
And before one such war with The Arabs, the closest aid of Maharaj Shiladitya who knew the secret weapon or the Chariot was befriended & bribed. The most trusted of the King betrayed him & made the Kund impure with Gau Rakth (Blood).
That day when the King summoned the Chariot nothing came out. Shila knew it was his end & with his death in the ensuing battle The Sun Temple collapsed & entered the Earth.
Much later in the 7th Century Shiladitya descendant Maharaj Bappa Rawal The Legendary warrior with the blessings of Mahadev ( Ekling Ji) restored & revamped on top of the remnants of the Sun Temple this Kali Temple. I was kind of spell bound when I located the remnants & the recreated Temple along with that Divine Kund, I had no words.
Had been searching for this Kund & Temple for almost 30 years. If anyone visits Chittor do pay a visit.
The Story of Bappa Rawal & Ekling Ji the presiding deity of entire Mewar is as equally interesting & Divine.
